Port Vincent Caravan Park & Seaside Cabins now has wireless internet access.

As caravan park owners we have always been unsure as to whether we needed to provide internet access as we were under the impression that a lot of people had their own means to access the internet.  After a lot of research and listening to feedback from our customers we realised that the availability of internet at hospitality venues across Australia is increasing rapidly and becoming a service that is expected by guests to have on their lists of services offered.

We finally chose the company “NomadNet” to install a wireless internet hotspot for our caravan park for they have over 200 venues using the system across Australia.

It was a very simple process once we decided to do it. All we did was contact NomadNet and they sent a technician the very next day that installed two aerials in the caravan park and set up the computer and explained how it all worked. He gave us all the information to put in the compendiums, signage, brochures and some access cards to get us going.

We now stock a range of access cards to sell to our guests.  Once the guest purchases an access card, they follow the instructions of how to connect to the network which are supplied in the room compendium, or available from the reception.

One of the great features is that all guests who purchase a pre-paid NomadNet access card are able to use any remaining access time at any other participating NomadNet venue. i.e., if a guest uses 30 minutes of a 1, 2 or 5 Hour Multi Use Access Card, they are able to use their remaining time on their next visit or at another NomadNet venue in the days ahead on their journey.

We believe this is an excellent addition to our business which will enhance our visitors experience and broaden our target market by catering better for families and travelling business people.

I don’t know why we waited so long; we should have done it years ago!

It was another spectacular end to Port Vincent New Years Day Gala Day celebrations 2012 with an amazing display of fireworks over the bay.

It was a lovely balmy night standing on the wharf and enjoying the atmosphere with a gentle sea breeze which was much welcomed after the heat of the day. It was very pleasant relaxing with family and friends and listening to the band playing outside the Ventnor Hotel before it was dark enough for the fireworks to begin.

The beach became a riot of colour with all the kids and there never ending assortment of glow sticks. There was plenty of food and drinks available from the local shops, hotel and extra food stalls along the beach front.

After the band announced their last song the fireworks began. Erupting into the night sky and filling it with colour. We also get an added bonus here in port Vincent because the fireworks are set on “the spit” out into the water so we also get wonderful

reflections in the bay which doubles the impact and make a truly awesome sight.

The fireworks went for quite some time with an amazing grand finale which received a lot of ooooos and aaaaahs. I never get tired of watching fireworks and this year I took down my DSLR camera and tripod, set it to time laps and got some really good shots. This is some of them, I hope you enjoy them.

We were very honoured to have a couple of our regular visitors to Port Vincent Caravan Park & Seaside Cabin choose our park to get married in today. This being New Years Eve 2011 and having perfect weather for the occasions helped to make a lovely setting on the beach front. The weather was warm but there was a light sea breeze to keep everyone cool in the shade of the trees & we had a gazebo & chairs set up for them on the lawn.

The bride & groom just wanted a no fuss, simple ceremony on the beach front and they invited some of their close family & friend. Some of whom it was a surprise that they were tying the knot that day. Some of our other visitors in the park also came along to witness the ceremony.

After a lovely intermit ceremony the newly married couple had the rest of the day to enjoy drinks & seafood with their family & friends and see the New Year in together.

We wish them all the best for the New Year and their new life together.

Perfect day

We were lucky enough to have the help of a local farmer and with a bit of imagination, we managed to move the last van (which had no hitch) to the other side of the road. Now we have all the semi-permanent caravans on one side of the park where they are well catered for in there own separate area and the beach front side of the caravan park is 100% dedicated to Tourist Accommodation.

We are now going to have 33% more sites to keep the caravan park open and spacious. As owners of the park it has always been our goal to keep the park open so everyone can enjoy the beautiful ocean views, which is why most people come to stay at Port Vincent. When we came to the park 5 years ago it was a mix of cabins, caravan sites and semi-permanent vans all in together. Now there is a complete separation of the two types of accommodation and we think it looks great and works well.

So come and see for yourself how much bigger the park looks. With a little bit more work to do on the new sites to get them ready for the Xmas season and the park will be looking fantastic!

Silver-2011 SA Tourism Awards

We attended the 2011 SA Tourism Awards Dinner Presentation last night at the Adelaide Convention Centre. We had a great night especially since we came home with a Silver Award for our Deluxe Cabins here at Port Vincent Caravan Park & Seaside Cabins. We were very happy with this for it was our first year an entering at the state level and there was some very stiff competition.
There was a lot of work involved in entering the awards but it’s all worth it when you can come home with an award to show for it. It also means so much to us for we have only been in the Tourism Industry for 5 years. We have learnt a lot and we are still learning along the way and this confirms to us that we are doing something right and to keep trying to improve the standards of not just our business but also contributing to improving the State’s Tourism Industry.
Another benefit is we have something to show our staff that they also are doing a great job and they should have pride in what they do for we could not achieve this award without them and the support from the local community.

I was walking on the back beach in Port Vincent this morning and was mesmerized by the water. There was not a breath of wind and the water was like a sheet glass. There were thunder clouds over Adelaide, which were reflecting in the still water and in the rock pools on low tide. There were people walking their dogs and exploring the beach. There were lots of boats out and about making the most of the calm weather and bird life abundant. It is truly a beautiful way to start the morning.

Caravan Park & Seaside Cabins. This is the time of year when we can do some improvements and renovations to the park before we get busy again. One of our latest projects has been to renovate our ladies amenity building . We have pulled down walls and opened up the space. We leveled the floor and re-tilled it in a large modern neutral tile. We have installed new toilet systems, large vanity bench, modern basins, large mirrors and new lighting. Now it is a beautiful, light, bright space that I’m sure our visitors will love it.

It has always been a functional, clean and tidy space but as it has not been updated for some years and was getting a bit dated with it’s multi-coloured and mission brown tiles. It was like stepping into a time warp from the 70′s. Now it is modern &  spacious, just what our visitors would expect in a modern day caravan park.

While we were at it we also had the plumber install hot water over the basins and we got the electrician to install extra power points so the ladies can look their best even while camping.

If the idea of roughing it during a camping trip doesn’t  appeal to you,then why go camping when you can go glamping?

Getting the sites ready for summer

some maintenance work done on the powered sites here at Port Vincent Caravan Park and Seaside Cabins.

We have just hired a dingo for a couple a hours and leveled off some of the beachfront sites, and are going to lay some more paved areas where the grass struggles to grow due to heavy traffic and matting on the grass for lengths of time. This also means campers will have a nice clean flat surface for their caravan annexes. We still have other grassed sites for tents available on request.

These sites are also great for large vans and fifth wheeler’s for they are drive through sites so there is plenty of room. If you think you might have trouble or you do want help, Mark is always willing to put your van on site for you.

When finished they will be beautiful, flat and green with a lovely paved area to sit and watch the dolphins swim by.

Happy Dog, Happy Owner

year round in our caravan park, but a few years ago we saw a need for people travelling with pets to be able to hire cabin accommodation. Because of health regulations we can not allow pets in all of the cabins, but we have set aside 4 budget cabins as Pet Friendly where visitors can have their family pet in the cabin with them.  Yes, you can have you beloved dog, cat or bird with you on holidays.

We are situated on a quiet beach in Port Vincent on the Yorke Peninsula, which is only a 2 hour drive from Adelaide. The beaches are pet friendly also as long as you pick up after your pet, so bring your “doggy bags” or just ask us at our office if you run out.

We have 2 Budget Cabin with no bathroom, but the park amenities are close by and 2 Budget Ensuite Cabins which all sleep either 2 or 4 people. You just need to bring your own bedding or bedding packs are available to hire from the park office.
